So here’s what it looks like when I try to explain to marley what ‘stem cell blood banking’ is 😂 Our impending new arrival has our little family all excited about what’s coming in 2019. Becoming a parent has made me realise how literally you would do anything to protect your children, I’ve never known anything like it and I definitely would have never known how it would feel to be a mum. I feel incredibly grateful to have been approached by @futurehealthbiobank who collect cord blood at birth and store the vital stem cells from your child. These stem cells can then be accessed in the future if needed, to treat 85 diseases including anaemia, thalessemia and leukaemia. It’s absolutely mind blowing that this sort of technology is available to everyday people and with all the research going into stem cells at the moment who knows what banking this now could do for my kids future. The cells also have a much higher percentage of being a match for your other children too, which means you are not only possibly protecting your new baby but also other family members too. It’s a once in a lifetime thing that can only happen at the birth and I don’t know about you but I jumped at the opportunity to be able to do it. Knowing that you’ve done everything you can to protect your kids in the future is absolutely priceless. So we stored Olivia’s stem cells to help secure her health in the future.
We have chosen @futurehealthbiobank_jo_uae and didn’t regret our decision. Everything from the moment we signed the contract until the samples collection went absolutely smooth.
Last week we have received email from the UK facility that our sample is perfect and has been stored for 30 years. One of the greatest advantages of storing your child’s stem cells is that it can be preserved for many years. The cord blood stem cells stored for your child may be of use to any close family members, including their siblings.
The process is extremely easy – after signing the contract you receive the “collection kit”, straight after birth your doctor is collecting the samples from your baby’s umbilical cord and put them back into the collection kit, then your sample is collected from the hospital and shipped to the UK storage facility.
So simple but so incredibly important
